When the autopilot is on: The buttons change the heading that the autopilot will maintain.
When the autopilot is off: The rudder is moved manually.
The CR2032 battery will last for many years and can be easily replaced if needed. The range is max 5-30 meters but depends heavily on the number of obstructions.

The remote works well, An issue I have when it's hanging on the neck is Accidentally leaning on it when doing activities around the boat and changing course and in one instance over turning and jumping the drive belt. Suggestion: The same unit, but mounting like a Watch, wrist or arm strap
Works great on the Kirchen table Test set up. Will install it soon on the boat. Looking forward to it
The remote control is a nice addition, which I always have hanging around my neck while boating, giving me control from anywhere on the boat.

Works great, and was fun to build!
Using Pieters plans, I built the Arduino based controller, and attached it to a motorized helm unit. Works perfectly! I purchased the remote fob, and now the system works without a cell phone. I am looking forward to the dash mounted control panel. This will finish the system off!
